General Maintenance Tips
- Co-wash the hair every week or as often as needed and do your best to use products that are free of sulfates and parabens.
- Steer clear of heavy products such as grease, etc. especially on the straight/wavy textures. A light serum or oil such as argan oil can be added for additional shine/smoothness or to tame frizz.
- Deep conditioning is also recommended at least once a month. This is real hair and because it's been cut away from its nutrient source (the donor), the necessary care needed to keep hair healthy have to be implemented in order to maintain its beauty.
- For our deep wave/curly textures: If you're on the go, we'd recommend wetting the hair and apply a moisturizing leave in conditioner such as the shea moisture hydrate & repair leave in spray then sealing in the moisture with your favorite lightweight serum such as one and only argan oil or Ion silk drops. Or you may also add a quarter size moisturizing conditioner into a spray bottle filled with water to add moisture as demonstrated here.
- For maximum conditioning and to make sure moisture remains in the hair as long as possible, it's recommended to always seal in the moisture you've added with one of the above oils/serums mentioned.
Please keep in mind that products such as mousse, hairsprays, contain alcohol that can also potentially cause dryness so please use sparingly if you choose to use them at all.
WIG TIPS
Regular maintenance is key if you want to extend the lifespan of your wig. Using the right products along with the right techniques can increase your wigs longevity and see them last for years.
We've shortlisted a few dos and don’ts below that can help you protect your hair investments so you can enjoy your wigs for as long as possible.
Do's:
- Detangle your wig with a wide-tooth comb (starting from the ends) before washing.
- Detangle your wig regularly before wash day
- Wash your wig weekly (if you wear it every day). Product buildup and grease can cause your wigs to be stiff & tangle.
- If you're not in a rush, opt out of using heat and air dry your wigs instead.
- Use leave-in conditioner when necessary. This will help to top up your hair extension moisture levels in between wash days.
- Store your wigs away in a silk or satin bag.
Don't's:
- Over bleach your knots (this can accelerate balding by 50%).
- Over pluck your frontals and closure if you want them to last.
- Use wig adhesives every day. Repetitive glue and removal can weaken the lace and knots overtime.
- Tug on your lace when putting on, adjusting or removing your wig
